Situated south of McLaren Vale, Leconfield’s first vines were planted in 1974 with the construction of the winery completed in 1975. The vineyard was cared and nurtured by owner and creator Sydney Hamilton, who had the dream of creating a classic Australian red wine. The Coonawarra based winery not only achieved this dream but also became critically acclaimed and legendary with the production of early vintages including the 1978 and 1980 Cabernet.
After a change of ownership to Sydney’s nephew Richard Hamilton, Leconfield has continued to gain an enviable reputation for its dedication and commitment to producing wines that are unique and of cellarable style of the highest quality. The cellar door has is nestled amongst the vineyards with magnificent views to the Willunga escarpment and is surrounded by beautiful landscaped grounds.
Leconfield is one in over 60 participating wineries that make up the South Australian wine experience known as the Cellar Door Pass, and is a participating winery in the Cheese and Wine Trail. |
